A trip to the Twelve Apostles

This weekend we travelled south-west of Melbourne, back to the Great Ocean Road, to see the Twelve Apostles.

We decided to drive mostly inland this time, as it is a more direct route but unfortunately a thick cloud of fog meant we didn’t see much of the countryside. We stopped in the town of Colac whose sole attraction seems to be the restaurant Oddfellows where we had lunch.

As you can see, the fog had lifted when we reached the coast by mid afternoon revealing postcard views of the famous landmark, which we were  able to capture despite the crowds of tourists.

We stayed the night in the picturesque town of Apollo Bay, where we sampled the local beer ‘Prickly Moses‘ and had dinner at the lovely La Bimba restaurant which specializes in local produce and seafood.

We awoke to a very mild winter’s morning and enjoyed a quick walk on the beach. Although the purpose of our trip was to see the Twelve Apostles, watching the sun rise over an almost deserted beach at Apollo Bay was certainly the highlight for me.
