San Diego in 24 Hours

San Diego holds a special place in my heart. It’s where I lived for several years while attending college and working for a tech startup before relocating to the Silicon Valley. It also happens to be where John, my husband, grew up. John and I share the love of simple things like a really, really good California burrito, carne asada fries, and Phil’s BBQ from San Diego.

This time, we had 24 hours in San Diego, and I was grateful for a chance to see old friends and enjoy some good eats during our brief stay. I want to introduce some of the spots I stopped by, for those of you who may have a quick trip to San Diego at some point!

Our flight was delayed for a bit, but we stopped at Infini Tea to get boba and catch up with a few friends. My less-sweet Thai tea with boba hit the spot.

Our next stop was Vallarta’s. I devoured my California burrito like there was no tomorrow. Vallarta’s California burrito came with guacamole and sour cream by default.

Then we went to UC San Diego’s Conrad Prebys Concert Hall to attend a chamber music concert. There are always great performances of classical or contemporary music, and the concert hall has wonderful acoustics. Be sure to check out the upcoming concerts via their website.

The next morning, we headed to The Mission for brunch. Parking can be a challenge, so I had John drop me off at the restaurant to put our names on the wait list. He found a spot right off Mission Blvd. While waiting for our names to be called, we took a stroll around the Mission Beach.

At The Mission, I opted for blueberry cornmeal pancakes, which was delicious. John’s French toast was crunchy on the exterior and fluffy inside. Mmm.

We had a few hours to spare before catching our flight, so what did we do? We called Phil’s for a phone order of baby back AND beefy ribs for to go. We picked the delicious ribs up on the way to Harbor Island near the airport. We spent the next hour or so enjoying the ocean breeze, blue sky, and beautiful city skyline. Then we snacked on the ribs. The TSA team at the San Diego airport had no problem of us bringing the leftovers home.

Until the next time, San Diego.
